Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common cause of neurologic disability among young adults. Recent advances in diagnosis and treatment have made it possible to begin effective disease-modifying treatment at an early stage, which has been shown to produce more favorable long-term neurologic outcomes.
Lifestyle strategies are becoming increasingly recognized as equally important as pharmacologic treatments in maintaining function, improving symptoms, and possibly affecting disease outcomes in this patient population.
This presentation will present data supporting evidence-based recommendations for lifestyle strategies for persons with MS. The six pillars of brain health will be discussed, and preclinical and clinical data from interventions in each category will be presented, demonstrating their impact on clinical and paraclinical parameters, such as MRI and biomarkers. Data from a pilot trial of lifestyle interventions in persons with early MS will also be presented.
